Fixdev Agent

The Fixdev agent is a micro-application that runs locally on your desktop. It overcomes the technical limitations of your web browser, allowing you to create FIX sessions directly from your browser. It's required to launch manual FIX sessions.

System tray

When the agent is running, it appears in the system tray. The icon is the Fixdev logo, the blue 'F' shown below.

Agent in system tray

You can right-click the tray icon to see a menu with the following items:

  • A list of active FIX connections, with these sub-menu options:
    • Open in browser: opens the FIX connection in your web browser
    • Kill: forcefully kills the FIX connection by closing the TCP connection. No Logout message is sent
  • A list of active FIX acceptors, with these sub-menu options:
    • Stop accepting: the acceptor will stop accepting new incoming connections, but any active connections will stay open
    • Stop and kill active connections: the acceptor will stop new incoming connections, and any active connections will be killed
  • Open log directory: opens the agent's data directory in your file explorer
  • Quit: stops the agent process

Updating the agent

Occasionally, you may see a prompt that your agent version is out-of-date.

The agent does not currently have an installer; it's a portable executable. To update to the latest version, simply download the latest version and use that in place of the old version.

Running the agent at startup

You may prefer for the agent to start automatically after you log in. Since the agent has no installer, this is a manual step. You can follow the instructions in these Windows docs.
